On the upcoming 12th, 13th and 14th of February, the city of Barcelona will host the 7th Symposium on Road Tunnels, held by Spain’s Technical Road Association (ATC). Despite living in an increasingly globalised and connected world, it is hard to believe that there are still so many isolated or poorly connected areas. Therefore, on this occasion, and with the title “Tunnels: Shorten Distances, Unite People. Current Panorama and Good Practices”, professionals in this field will be addressing the challenges and successes of this side of civil engineering.
The meeting will bring together leading experts from both the public and private sectors, and Emesa will be honoured to participate and share its experience with all those attending. During the session titled “Improving the Management of Tunnels”, to be held on the first day of the meeting, our spokesperson Mar Martínez Yebra, head of the Tunnel Safety Department at Emesa, will present her paper: “Coordinating Activities in Normal and Emergency Situations in Complex Tunnels”.
The symposium will start off by addressing “The Future of Road Tunnel Projects”, an issue that will take up the morning of February 12th. The afternoon session will focus on “Improving the Management of Road Tunnels”. The second day of the meeting will be focused mainly on “Exploitation and Adaptation Models for Tunnels”, followed by the issue of tunnels’ “Design Elements”. To conclude the meeting, on Thursday, February 14th, “New Technologies and Designs” will be discussed and the meeting that is held every four years will come to a close with the discussion on “Tunnel Projects and Inspections”.
Barcelona was the city chosen unanimously by the committees, given its long tradition in the construction of road tunnels and its knowledge of how to operate tunnels in service. It is also an ideal time, given the progress that is being made in the city with the construction of the tunnels in the Plaza de Glorias square, as well as the work being done to cover the tunnels of the Ronda de Dalt road.
