Emesa, in its commitment to environmental protection and efficient energy use, has decided to certify its Management System with AENOR in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 14001:2015 and UNE-EN ISO 50001:2011 standards. The implementation of these systems in the organization has helped to improve environmental and energy performance by setting a series of goals and improvement actions.
Information is given below on the main environmental actions undertaken by Emesa in recent years:

To minimise its environmental impact and improve its energy management, Emesa undertook the following actions:
Replacement of
- Specific materials used to carry out the waterproofing of structures with insulated cork, a more environmentally-friendly alternative. It was applied to a total of 13 surface structures on the M30 in 2018.
- 100% of the large surface lighting in the Tunnel Control Room with LED lighting.
- In the Portugal Base, 21 fluorescent lights with a total output of 1500W with 21 LED lights with an output of 630W.
Installation of
- New air conditioning units featuring more efficient technology.
- Two new electrical energy meters to continue improving the monitoring of energy consumption.
Renewal of
- Office lighting by replacing the existing lighting (fluorescent tube lights and energy saving lamps) with LED lighting.
OUR PLANS TO CONTINUE LOWERING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT IN 2019 ARE:
- Continue replacing lighting in our facilities with LED technology.
- Optimise the cooling systems in the Control Centre data centre.
- Continue providing training on efficient driving.
- Adapt the Energy Management System to the UNE-EN ISO 50001:2018 standard.
- Plant 600 oleanders (Nerium oleander).
- Use plastic bags manufactured with 80% recycled material for collecting waste and cleaning the M30 highway.
