The different types of speed cameras on the M-30 play a fundamental role in preventing speeding on Madrid´s main ring road. The are many reasons why speed cameras are placed on the M-30, but the most important is to ensure road safety.

If you live in Madrid or travel on this road frequently, you will be interested to know what these types of speed cameras are, how they work and where they are. In any case, we recommend always being aware of the importance of respecting the established speed limits.

Type of speed cameras on the M-30

There are fixed speed cameras or speed cameras without an operator, mobile speed cameras or speed cameras with an operator, stretch speed cameras and red light speed cameras. Each one has a specific purpose and, therefore, they are used for different purposes to combat traffic violations more effectively.

Fixed radars or speed cameras without an operator

This is one of the most common types and the presence thereof is made known on the road as the Government is required to inform users by law when recording images. This is one of the best known options to control speed in areas that lend themselves to excesses.

There are a total of 15 fixed speed cameras on the M-30 that are spread throughout it. Do you know who is responsible for installing these radars both on and off the M-30? They are usually installed in cabins, although sometimes in porticos or poles. However, you will soon be able to locate them easily because they are usually located on long straight sections and can be clearly seen.

Mobile speed cameras or speed cameras with an operator

Mobile speed cameras have the aim of pursuing traffic violations in areas that are considered most dangerous for everyday driving. It is important to note that, in this case, there is no need for a speed limitation. The infrastructure is in a camouflaged police car which may be parked or in motion.

It must be said that this speed camera model does not have to be notified in advance, although in many cases it is done through variable message panels. As one of the objectives is to surprise offenders, it should not surprise you that they are located on curves and strategic places.

Stretch speed cameras

Stretch speed cameras have been recently implemented in Madrid with the aim of controlling the average speed of a vehicle in a certain section. If this exceeds the limit established between points A and B, the driver is sanctioned.

The presence of these speed cameras is notified in advance because a recording takes place and in order for drivers to maintain a steady driving pattern.

A stretch speed camera is usually located in areas where speeding has been detected regularly, whether or not the area is dangerous. These speed cameras have a high degree of effectiveness, so they are increasingly being used.

Red light speed cameras

The purpose of red light speed cameras is specific: to fine those vehicles that disobey stop signs. The M-30 has a section where vehicles and pedestrians coexist, on Avenida de la Ilustración, where there is no clear differentiation between the footpaths and the rest of the city. Consequently, this type of speed camera has the main objective of improving the safety of both types of user and they are only activated if an infraction has been committed.

Red light speed cameras, therefore, are a complement to a certain type of road that is not very common on the M-30. They are usually installed on busy streets because they effectively reduce accidents.

The different types of M-30 speed cameras allow the Police to control the speed of the vehicles so that we are all safer. If you take these aspects into account, you will be able to drive more safely when you travel through this benchmark road in Madrid. As a driver it is always good to know when and how you can be fined.
